The Farm That Grew From a Commodity Plot
Nestor Lasso grew up in Normandía, near Pitalito in southern Huila — the son of a coffee farmer who sold cherries to cooperatives at commodity prices. When Nestor and his brother Adrian took over the family's land, they chose a different path. Rather than continuing the commodity model, Nestor trained through SENA's specialty coffee processing programme, began experimenting with fermentation protocols, and started planting rare varieties that the international specialty market was demanding. Finca El Diviso is the result — a 14.5-hectare farm at 1,750 masl that has gone from anonymity to the most prestigious competition stages in the world in less than a decade.

The Variety Portfolio
El Diviso's most important differentiator is its variety collection. Nestor has assembled one of the most diverse genetic portfolios of any Colombian smallholder farm — specifically selecting Ethiopian-heritage landraces and rare cross varieties that produce exceptional cup quality at El Diviso's altitude and volcanic soils.
The Cata Export Partnership
The relationship between El Diviso and Cata Export — founded by former UK baristas Cat and Pierre — was the market access breakthrough that transformed the farm's trajectory. Cata worked directly with Nestor, Adrian, and Jhoan Vergara over months of trial and error to define the processing protocols that now define El Diviso's competition-grade lots. Today, Cata Export distributes El Diviso to specialty roasters across the UK, Germany, Denmark, Ireland, France, Poland, and beyond — making Finca El Diviso one of the most internationally connected farms in Colombia.
