Ritho Cooperative and Wamuguma Factory

Ritho Cooperative Society operates the Wamuguma factory within Kenya's cooperative coffee model — smallholder members delivering cherry to a collectively managed factory, processed to the double-washed standard, and sold through channels that distribute premiums back to the farming community. The Wamuguma PB lot separates the naturally occurring peaberry beans — approximately 5–10% of any factory's output — into a distinct grade through drum sorting during green coffee preparation.

SL28 and SL34: The Scott Laboratories Legacy

SL28 and SL34 are products of Kenya's Scott Laboratories coffee research programme of the 1930s — two of the most celebrated coffee varieties anywhere in the world. SL28 was selected from a Tanganyika drought-resistant variety and is characterised by very low yields but extraordinary cup quality: the intense blackcurrant, tomato, and citrus acidity that defines Kenya's global reputation traces directly to this variety. SL34 was selected from a Bourbon-related variety, providing better yields, body, and structure. Together in the cup — blended naturally through cooperative cherry aggregation — they produce Kenya coffee's layered complexity: fruit acids from SL28, body from SL34, double-washed clarity allowing both to speak fully.
