How to make the perfect coffee at home
Compartir
Want to enjoy specialty coffee at home just like you would at a coffee shop? This guide tells you how to achieve a balanced and delicious cup, without the need for professional equipment.
1. Choose a good coffee (always whole bean)
It all starts with a fresh bean. Choose freshly roasted, certified coffee . Store it in an airtight container , away from light and heat, to preserve its aromas.
2. Proper grinding according to the method
The grind defines the extraction. Use a burr grinder (not a blade grinder) and adjust the coarseness according to your brewing method:
- Coarse : French Press or Cold Brew.
- Media : V60 or Chemex.
- Medium-fine : Italian Moka.
- Fine : Espresso.
3. Perfect proportions: the 1:16 rule
A good guideline is to use 1 gram of coffee for every 16 grams of water . For example: 18 g of coffee → 288 g of water. If you like it stronger, reduce the ratio to 1:15.
4. Ideal temperature and time
- Use water between 90°C and 96°C .
- Do not let it rest longer than necessary to avoid bitterness.
- The average extraction time is 2:30 to 3 minutes for filtrates.
5. Enjoy the result
Pour, smell, taste, and repeat. Learn to recognize the acidity , body , and aromas of each coffee. Each cup is an opportunity to adjust and improve your recipe.
