Description
Description
Danche is a washing station located in Chelbesa, Gedeo, owned by our partners SNAP COFFEE, and is organically certified.
The station buys cherries from approximately 400 farmers who achieve good yields thanks to fertile soils and good agricultural practices. The farms are located at high altitudes (2,000 - 2,300 masl) and have an average size of 1-2 hectares.
High altitudes play an important role in shaping the distinctive flavour profiles produced at this station. Harvesting usually takes place later in the season compared to other regions, due to its location. This prolonged cherry ripening period contributes significantly to the exceptional quality of the product.
In addition, the team at Danche station has extensive experience in agronomy and agriculture, which gives them the freedom to effectively experiment with new processing methods.
For this natural process, ripe red cherries are harvested by local farmers and delivered to Danche station. The cherries are floated to remove foreign materials and defective cherries. Afterwards, they are placed on raised African beds for approximately 2 to 3 weeks for drying.
SNAP COFFEE, our export partner, was founded in Addis Ababa in 2008 by Negusse D. Weldyes. It operates three washing and processing stations in Chelelektu, the Kochere district in the Gedeo zone, and collaborates with washing stations in Uraga (Guji) and Nensebo (West Arsi), serving an average of 550 farmers per station.
In the cup, it stands out with notes of blueberry, lime, and peach.
