Description
El Naranjo is a washed coffee of the Pink Bourbon variety, produced by Wilson Ortega Muñoz on his family farm El Naranjo, located in Arauca, San Agustín, Huila, Colombia, at 1,800 meters above sea level.
The farm spans three hectares and is managed by Wilson and his wife Milvia. Wilson grew up in the countryside within a family dedicated to agriculture for generations, and his relationship with the land has defined his entire career as a producer.
After various stages working with other crops, Wilson and Milvia turned to coffee as a new path for their family. Over time, the farm grew through the acquisition of small family plots, becoming a shared project based on continuous improvement and the pursuit of quality.
In the cup, this Pink Bourbon offers a clean, juicy, and light profile, with a very characteristic fruity expression of the variety. Notes of red currant, passionfruit, and honey sweetness emerge clearly, accompanied by bright acidity and an elegant mouthfeel.
Pink Bourbon is one of Colombia's most prized varieties for its complex and fruity profiles. Its name comes from the pink color of its cherries, different from the usual red of other varieties.
Process
This coffee has been processed using the Washed method.
Cherries are harvested approximately every three weeks to reach optimal ripeness. After harvest, they are left to ferment overnight in a wooden container.
The following morning, the beans are de-pulped and undergo a wet fermentation for up to 38 hours. Subsequently, they are washed four times to remove any remaining mucilage and achieve a cleaner cup.
Finally, the coffee is dried evenly on raised beds for 15–20 days, allowing its sweetness to develop and its aromatic characteristics to be preserved.
The result is a clean, vibrant, and delicate coffee, with a combination of tropical fruit, red notes, and natural sweetness.
