Description

Kibingo Oro is a coffee from Burundi originating from the hills of Kayanza, in the north of the country, where thousands of smallholder farmers grow coffee at altitudes between 1,700 and 1,900 meters.

This Red Bourbon variety lot stands out for its Natural processing with Oro yeasts, which combines controlled fermentation with slow drying to develop an intensely fruity profile.

Kibingo Washing Station and its producers

The Kibingo washing station is located at an altitude of 1,893 meters and works with 3,515 registered farmers, distributed across 18 hills in the region.

Most of these producers grow coffee on small family plots, with approximately 200–250 coffee trees per family.

Kibingo is part of a network of stations managed by Greenco and participates in various agricultural support initiatives.

Producers can access organic fertilizers made from composted coffee pulp, subsidized coffee plants, and training programs aimed at improving productivity and strengthening farming communities.

The station has facilities for fermentation, soaking, and drying, including 165 drying tables.

Natural Process - Oro Yeast

Processing begins with the manual harvesting of ripe cherries.

Once delivered to the station, the cherries undergo flotation sorting and manual grading to remove those with defects or improper ripeness.

Subsequently, the whole cherries are placed in containers where Lalcafé Oro yeast is added.

Fermentation takes place for approximately 36 hours.

After this stage, the cherries are transferred to raised tables, where they are slowly dried for two to three weeks.

During drying, the coffee is regularly inspected and graded to ensure uniform dehydration. The cherries are covered overnight and in rainy conditions.

Once the proper moisture level is reached, the coffee is stored, and each lot is evaluated through quality control cuppings.

Sensory Profile

In the cup, we find notes of raspberry, strawberry, popping candy, and milk chocolate.

The profile combines the fruity character of raspberry and strawberry with a sweet and vibrant sensation reminiscent of popping candy.

The milk chocolate notes add a softer and rounder dimension, completing an expressive, sweet, and full-bodied cup.

Roasted by KB Coffee Roasters with a filter profile, Kibingo Oro is an interesting option to discover the potential of Burundi coffees processed with selected yeasts.

About KB Coffee Roasters

KB Coffee Roasters is a Parisian roastery obsessed with one thing: flavor.
Their philosophy is simple yet radical—they select coffees solely based on how they taste, not on trends, marketing, or history. Each batch undergoes blind cuppings, and they only choose what truly excites them to drink every day.
Their approach is deliberately "selfish": they roast the coffee they love. This honesty defines their identity—they don't try to please everyone, but rather to create something truly special.
Behind every coffee is rigorous work with producers and long-term partners, carefully overseeing the entire process from origin to cup.
👉 The result: authentic, precise coffees crafted with a genuine obsession for quality.
