Description

Mitandi 2 Coffee Farmers is a coffee from the Rwenzori Mountains in western Uganda, produced by a small community of farmers linked to the Empaako Collective.

This SL28 variety batch, grown at an altitude between 1,750 and 2,000 meters and processed using the Natural method, stands out for its notes of juicy, red berries, cotton candy, and dark chocolate.

The Mitandi Community and Empaako Collective

Mitandi is one of the founding communities linked to the Empaako Collective project. Led by Kighoma Herizone, this small community has been growing coffee in the Rwenzori Mountains for decades.

Many of their coffee trees are over 30 years old and have grown for decades with little agricultural support, without regular pruning or renewal work.

Traditionally, buyers arrived during the harvest, purchased the coffee, and did not return until the following season.

Empaako Collective seeks to change this dynamic through long-term commercial relationships, improvements in agricultural practices, and investment in the future of producer communities.

Natural Process

This SL28 batch is processed using the Natural method, in which the coffee cherries are dried while retaining their skin and pulp.

The exact fermentation and drying times and conditions used for this batch are not specified.

Sensory Profile

In the cup, we find notes of juicy, red berries, cotton candy, and dark chocolate.

The profile combines the fruity character of red berries with the sweetness of cotton candy and the depth of dark chocolate, offering a juicy, sweet cup full of character.

Mitandi 2 Coffee Farmers is an opportunity to discover the potential of Ugandan coffees and the work of a community committed to a more sustainable future for its producers.

Acerca de Stray Coffee Roasters

Matthias Feldmeier and Ilan Bachl founded Stray Coffee Roasters in 2021.

A unique coffee experience depends on more than just our expertise as roasters.

Most of the work is already done in the respective growing regions by the coffee producers. Unfortunately, these people are often overlooked and given little to no recognition. We want to change that! Our coffees always bear the name of the producers (or cooperatives).

And because we believe that informed consumers are essential for the sustainability of our industry, we communicate all costs along the supply chain.
