Nano Challa is a coffee produced in the Jimma region of Ethiopia by small farmers who are members of the Kata Muduga Farmers' Union, and processed at the Nano Challa cooperative's washing station.

Grown at 2,048 meters above sea level in the Geera region, this coffee thrives in a natural forest environment, where the coffee plants develop under shade and in soils rich in organic matter. These conditions, along with the cool, high-mountain climate, allow for slow ripening of the cherries, resulting in greater complexity and depth in the cup.

The Nano Challa cooperative works alongside other local organizations to coordinate the production of thousands of small farmers, maintaining a focus on quality, traceability and sustainability within a traditional forestry-type agricultural system.

Process

The coffee is processed using the washed method. After harvesting, the cherries are carefully selected by flotation and manual sorting. They are then pulped using water-efficient machinery and undergo a fermentation process with soaking for 8 to 12 hours.

Before the final drying, the coffee goes through an initial pre-drying phase and is then slowly dried for 7 to 11 days on raised African beds, ensuring good stability and consistency of the batch.

This process highlights the clarity, structure, and aromatic expression of the coffee.

In the cup, Nano Challa offers a refined and structured profile, with notes of ripe fruit, florals, black tea and a deep molasses-like sweetness, accompanied by an enveloping texture and a long, clean finish.
