Shantawene Natural is a coffee from the Bensa region of Sidama (Ethiopia), produced by around 650 smallholder farmers and processed at the Shantawene station.

This lot comes from coffees grown between 1,900 and 2,200 meters above sea level, where high altitude conditions, fertile soils, and a cool climate allow for slow cherry ripening, developing intense, sweet, and complex profiles.

The coffee is managed by Tariku Kare Exporters, an experienced specialty coffee producer and exporter, recognized for its focus on quality, traceability, and support for local communities.

Process

The coffee is processed using the natural (dry) method. Cherries are hand-picked at their optimal ripeness and dried whole on raised African beds, allowing the fruit's sugars to permeate the bean.

This process results in more intense, fruity, and sweet profiles, with greater body and texture.

In the cup, Shantawene Natural presents a vibrant and expressive profile, with notes of ripe red fruits, blackcurrant jam, violets, and a deep honey- or brown sugar-like sweetness, accompanied by a juicy texture and a slightly tea-like finish.

Additionally, this coffee is an Omni Roast, meaning it works perfectly for both filter and light espresso, offering versatility in preparation.
