Shyira Washed is a coffee from Nyabihu, Rwanda, produced by the Shyira Coffee Washing Station in collaboration with around 1800 small farmers in the area.

This lot is part of the work of Muraho Trading Co., an organization that operates several washing stations in Rwanda with the aim of developing high-quality coffees while generating a positive impact on producing communities.

The Shyira station, founded in 2017, is the smallest of the group, but also the highest in the country, located between 1,850 and 2,300 meters above sea level. These conditions, along with the cool climate, rich soils, and proximity to volcanic areas, allow for slow ripening of the cherries, favoring complex and vibrant cup profiles.

Process

The coffee is processed using the traditional washed method, where the cherries are pulped, fermented, washed, and then dried on raised African beds under carefully controlled conditions.

This approach highlights the clarity, bright acidity, and characteristic aromatic expression of great East African coffees.

In the cup, Shyira Washed presents a lively and juicy profile, with notes of currant, citrus, tropical fruit and a light floral background, reminiscent of the bright and expressive character of classic Kenyan coffees.
